At MAPS we emphasize the importance of helping the community through volunteering opportunities! 

Below are a list of volunteering opportunities that you can become a part of!

YAYA POR VIDA

Yaya Por Vida is a local nonprofit that uses art to connect the community in the areas of 

overdose prevention, awareness, substance use recovery, and harm reduction. They focus on making a significant impact in low-income communities and houseless populations.

Volunteering Events:

  • Care-kit packaging: Aid in the packaging and organization of resources intended for the houseless community and those suffering of drug dependence disorders.

  • Orientation: Orientation will serve as an introduction to the project, its values and goals. Volunteers will learn how to save lives in situations such as a drug overdose.

  • Outreach: Deliver the resources packaged during the Care-kit to the South Florida community.

ACCENTCARE

Accent Care is providing a variety of different volunteering position to undergraduate students/ grad students in order to gain experience with patient care as well an opportunity enrich their lives and of those in need. 

The positions available are:

  • Direct Care Volunteer: Provides a range of companionship and support to patients and caregivers at the bedside.

  • Administrative Volunteer: Supports the important office operations of the program.

  • Loyal Friends Pet Companion Volunteer: Uses certified therapy animals to engage patients.

  • Music Companion Volunteer: Shares the gift of music with our patients and families.

  • Vigil Volunteer: When family support is not available, we want to make sure that no patient dies alone.

  • Spiritual Presence Volunteer: Engages patients in familiar activities that provide spiritual comfort.

  • Legacy Volunteer: Uses crafts and multi-media to capture special memories and the unique legacy of each patient.

  • Veteran Volunteer: No one understands the unique needs of our Veterans better than active or retired military personnel.

  • Memory Bear Seamstress: Turns a patient’s clothing into a personalized stuffed bear for the family to cherish.

  • Bereavement Volunteer: Provides support to families throughout their first year of bereavement services.

To be eligible:

  • Must fill out application on their website. Required to participate in initial hospice volunteer training as well as basic orientation. Training is offered in different formats and locations throughout the AccentCare Hospice service areas. Specific skill sets may require additional interviews, selection, and program training.

SENIOR'S FIRST

Seniors First aims to enhance the quality of life that seniors live. They want seniors to maintain their independence and dignity.

 

Volunteers will have the opportunity to serve and connect with an older generation that has brought them to where they are now. Some of the many volunteer roles that Seniors First offers include:

-Delivery of Meals

-Food Pantry

-Joining Senior Social Groups

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF CAREGIVING YOUTH

The American Association of Caregiving Youth aims to support and celebrate youth who care for chronically ill, injured, elderly, or disabled family members. 

Volunteers will have the opportunity to support a child as they travel uncertainty, doubt, and pressure. They are many roles, suited for many talents, amongst them being a coordinator, tutor, and mentor. This is an experience will expose you or remind you of some hard truths, but will be equally as rewarding.

PROJECT DOWNTOWN MIAMI

Project Downtown Miami aims to give back to the less fortunate, whether economically or through volunteering makes a lasting impact on their lives.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to volunteer each Friday at 5:30 p.m. EST, in providing resources to our houseless populations. The event will focus on providing food, and you will have a chance to hear their stories, and their concerns, to hopefully further fuel your motivation and conviction to persue change through actions.

NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR EATING DISORDERS

The National Alliance for Eating Disorders is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to the outreach, education, early intervention, support, and advocacy for all eating disorders.

 

Alliance volunteers, both in person and virtual, will help with events, support office needs, and help with small one-off projects. There is no minimum hour requirement for volunteers and they are flexible to work around individual schedules.

 

If you are interested in helping those are struggling with eating disorders, you can apply to be a volunteer here.

WESTCHESTER LIBRARY

Westchester library volunteers are responsible for shelving and organizing books and magazines, assisting in the library office, sorting donated materials, and assisting with preparing arts and crafts materials for Children’s programming. 

Requirements:

  • Must call the library to ensure availability of positions.

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Volunteers must agree to a minimum 2-hour volunteer shift per visit.

Shift times:

  • 11am-1pm

  • 1pm-3pm

  • 3pm-5pm

  • 5pm-7pm

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami, an ecumenical ministry that transforms lives and communities by providing low-income families with affordable homeownership opportunities.

 

As a volunteer, you can share the joy of building decent and affordable homes in partnership with a low-income family.

BUBBLE CITY COMMUNITY PROJECT

The Bubble City Community Project is a university student-led club that is working on establishing a safe shelter for the homeless community. The goal is that homeless individuals have a place to lay their heads at night when they are turned down by certain shelters or have run out of options on where to rest and lay their belongings. 

This project also provides the community with where to find food and a community to lean on in times of struggle. If you're looking to find ways to make a difference in your community, then this group is for you.

MIAMI-DADE PARKS

Do you love nature? Do you want to help sustain Miami's beautiful parks so that everyone can enjoy them? Then you should volunteer with the Parks department of Miami-Dade!

They offer multiple roles in the areas of park site volunteers, park conservation corp, adopt-a-park group volunteers, and much more!

FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE

Friendship Circle is dedicated to offering friendship and acceptance to individuals with special needs, providing respite to their families, and empowering teenagers to make a difference through volunteerism.

 

As a volunteer with the Friendship Circle, you will make that difference by getting to know someone who can really use a friend like you--a child with special needs. Committing to just a few hours each weeks as a volunteer, you can change the life of a child by doing the things you already enjoy-playing games and sports, drawing, listening to music and more.

MIAMI DIAPER BANK

Volunteer with the Miami Diaper Bank to help give babies a better life!

Types of Volunteering:

- Warehouse Wednesdays (keeping Inventory and packing orders)

-Wrappy hours (bundling diapers into packs of 25-- they are on the second Saturday of each month)

-Distribution days

Baptist Health is accepting hospital volunteers at many of their locations.

EASTER SEALS

Easterseals South Florida offers help, hope and answers to more than 3,000 children and adults living with disabilities or special needs each year.

 

You can join them in making a rewarding difference! Volunteer your time and share your talents, whether it's performing office work, volunteering at an event, or helping in another way.

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

The Florida Department of Health in Miami- Dade is looking for volunteers for various programs, including their ongoing COVID-19 activities. If you are interested in supporting our community while learning more about local public health needs, please apply below!

CONVERSATIONS TO REMEMBER

Volunteer with a nonprofit, dedicated to combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens. Their virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits.

Eligibility:

Committed high school and college students. Typically, students volunteer 1-2 hours per week. Students are expected to volunteer for 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior.

MUSICIANS ON CALL

Regardless if you are a professional musician or just sing in the shower, Musicians on Call could be the organization for you! This organization takes musicians and puts them bedside of patients in hospitals here in Miami.

If playing music for the ill and their families interests you (both in-person and virtually), then please submit your application using the following link
